Why I Call St Kilda Road Home

Seven years ago, I moved to St Kilda Road, and I haven’t looked back since.

Most people consider this boulevard merely a commercial strip between the city and the beach. But that perception is quickly changing. For me, it changed the moment I started walking along the tree-lined boulevard, with Fawkner Park and Albert Park Lake on either side.

Here’s why St Kilda Road isn’t just a place I live, it’s a place I love.

1. The Best of Both Worlds: City + Green Space

St Kilda Road puts you right between the CBD and some of Melbourne’s best natural spaces. Within walking distance, I’ve got the gardens, the lake, the Tan track, and Fawkner Park. I can be in the heart of the city in five minutes, but birds and gum trees can also surround me in less time.

That balance matters. It’s rare to find a location that gives you both energy and stillness in equal measure.

2. A Shift in the Skyline

When I first moved here, much of the area was still tied to office life. Today, many of those towers have been converted into residential apartments or knocked down for luxury builds. You now see cranes above St Kilda Road not for corporate HQs, but for high-end luxury apartments.

That transformation has been fascinating to watch from the inside.
It also means more cafes and lifestyle amenities.

3. Underrated Architecture

From heritage-listed apartment blocks to striking new designs, there’s some seriously underrated architecture along this stretch. I walk past buildings by Guilford Bell, Fender Katsalidis, and Bench Coffee on my morning run.

4. Quiet Luxury

You don’t move to St Kilda Road for the nightlife. You move here for a more low-key kind of luxury. Private gyms. Discreet concierges. Secure buildings. You can disappear here if you want to, but everything you need is at arm’s reach. For professionals, expats, and downsizers, it offers a kind of lifestyle that’s hard to replicate elsewhere.

5. Infrastructure & Transport.

Trams on my doorstep every few minutes, plus the arrival of Anzac Station, part of the new Metro Tunnel project, is a game-changer. It’ll make transport even easier for locals and push property values up. I’ve had clients looking further south in St Kilda and Elwood, but once they see the long-term benefits of being on the new transport spine, they reconsider.

People often ask me why I haven’t moved. The answer’s simple: St Kilda Road works. It’s central without being chaotic, refined without being loud, and evolving in all the right ways.
